Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a type of rehabilitation that helps people who are limited by a physical or emotional illness, impairment or injury regain and build skills necessary to lead independent, productive and satisfying lives. Therapists work closely with each patient to help them develop their functional capability to the fullest extent possible. Occupational therapy can help those with:

  • Hand Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Neurological impairments such as stroke
  • Cancer
  • Burns
  • Orthopedic conditions such as total knee/hip replacements or fractures
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Wounds
  • Lymphedema

Our occupational therapists work closely with each patient, their health care team, family members and appropriate community resources. Generally, early intervention leads to the most effective restoration of function. Treatment may include:

  • Modalities such as heat, ice, paraffin or whirlpool
  • Manual therapies to improve motion
  • Stretching exercises to improve flexibility
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Splint fabrication and modification
  • Energy conservation and work simplification
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  • Activities that simulate work tasks
  • Home exercise programs
  • Upper extremity coordination
  • Cognitive and visual perceptual/sensory re-education

Inpatient and outpatient services include specialized programs for hand therapy, lymphedema, orthopedic rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, wound care and return to work evaluations.

Occupational therapy requires a referral from a physician. For more information about our services or how to go about getting a referral, contact Occupational Therapy at 507.457.4329.
